Why should you invest in water desalination system?
Why should you invest in water desalination system?

Water resources are not evenly distributed around the world, and some places lack sufficient natural water sources and need to find various alternatives. Desalination is one of the ways to obtain fresh water in coastal and arid countries where fresh water resources are scarce, which makes Desalination Plants increasingly popular around the world.
As the best supplier of water desalination systems in China, XJY Company will explain how to use Reverse Osmosis equipment to achieve seawater/brackish water desalination and provide water treatment solutions.

What is the core purpose of a sea water desalination system?
The seawater desalination system is to remove salt, impurities, organic matter, microorganisms, etc. from seawater and convert seawater into fresh water that can be used for drinking, domestic use, or industrial use.
Why is water desalination system on the rise?
Renub Research, an international research organization, pointed out that the driving forces for the rapid development and application of reverse osmosis desalination technology include long-term water shortages, large-scale public investment, technological development, and the rising demand for sustainable water sources in large cities. With the advancement of reverse osmosis desalination technology and the expansion of application scale, the cost of investing in and operating a reverse osmosis seawater desalination system has dropped significantly.

What are the difficulties faced in water desalination system?
Seawater contains chloride ions Cl⁻ (strongly corrosive), microorganisms, colloids, suspended solids, and organic matter.
- Because the concentration of chloride ions (Cl⁻) in seawater is very high, it is corrosive to metals and membrane components.
- the salt content of seawater is as high as 35,000 mg/L, and ordinary membranes cannot handle it at all.
- the osmotic pressure of seawater is very high, and requires a high-pressure pump to push it. Ordinary membranes can only withstand 15–20 bar, which cannot be sustained at all.
The SWRO membrane (Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Membrane) used in seawater desalination needs to be resistant to microbial pollution, chemical corrosion, and cleaning resistance.
How to set up a sea water intake?
There are three main forms of water intake: surface open, beach wells, and offshore water intake.

(1) The surface open water inlet can collect larger water flow and is the first choice for large seawater desalination plants. The disadvantage is that water quality may be affected by turbidity, temperature, emissions or storms over time.
(2) Beach well water intake, thanks to the natural filtration process underground, can provide better water with less sand.
(3) To draw water from the shore, build a water intake on the seaside and pump it in. Seawater flows into the pump through the gap in the pump impeller, and is radially pushed into the water desalination system under the action of centrifugal force.
What are the steps required in a sea water desalination system?
Seawater must be pretreated, depending on the type of intake and seawater characteristics.
(1) Preprocessing system:
- Pretreatment uses quartz sand filter tanks to intercept suspended solids with particle sizes greater than 20 microns by using substrates of different particle sizes. Over time, the filter will become dirty and less efficient, so regular backwashing is necessary.
- Filter element filter: It can intercept particles of 1-5 microns and reduce the contamination of subsequent reverse osmosis membranes caused by these particles.
(2)High-pressure pump:
- After pretreatment, a pressure of 5-6 MPa is required to enter the reverse osmosis membrane module for effective treatment.
(3) Reverse osmosis system:
It is the core part of the seawater desalination process. By applying pressure to the incoming water, it forces water molecules to pass through the membrane tangentially. This is the reverse osmosis process. The system consists of a series of pipe components. In the middle, membrane elements with low water production and high desalination rate are installed at the front end; membrane elements with high water production and low desalination rate reduce the energy consumption of the SWRO system.
40-45% of water passes through the membrane surface and becomes permeable liquid (containing only trace amounts of salt), and the concentrated water containing up to 99.98% of salt is intercepted, with a proportion of about 60%.
(4)UV ultraviolet disinfection:
Sterilization, virus elimination, and inhibition of microbial reproduction.

How to dispose of the output concentrated sea water ?
This is an issue that the buyer's team needs to consider based on their own conditions and geographical location. It is necessary to mix the concentrated brine with seawater as much as possible to avoid environmental impact on the drainage outlet.
XJY Company provides the following plan:
- Select areas with very high seawater mixing and strong tides for concentrated water discharge.
- Design a special pipeline for discharging concentrated salt water to achieve the purpose of mixing with seawater.
- The concentrated salt water discharge is fully mixed and blended with the original seawater at a ratio of 1:4 and discharged to the sea.

The discharge of concentrated brine mixes with the surrounding seawater as quickly as possible to reduce the impact on the entire environment and ecology, and avoid affecting your own water intake.
